So… you guys voted for a cafe last week. Let’s be honest, there are a lot of cafes in Melton and some would argue we have too many of the buggers*. This meant that I really had to ponder where would be featured in this week’s post and chances are, there’s going to be at least 4-5 more cafes that will be in future posts, should you guys vote the cafe category again. In short, for Kitchen and Coffee to be mentioned today, it has to be doing a lot right.
This cafe has opened on Sherrard Street this year and fills what once was an empty mall/building entity. So the fact it is providing much needed life is a big fat check in my book. Of course, being open is the very basic thing a business must do. Let’s be honest, if I merely said “Go here. It’s open”, this would be a tweet, not a blog post.
This family-owned cafe takes what worked in their popular Grantham branch and weaves it into Melton to provide something familiar but also unique. Popular sandwich options are joined by BBQ Chicken Chibattas (my personal favourite main meal here), homemade cakes support the dessert options which also feature pancakes and sundaes and coffees also share a section of the menu with cocktails. I

Their condiment shelf is probably, if not, the most varied for a cafe in Melton. Alongside your traditional tomato ketchup, you can also nab a pack of BBQ sauce. I personally think BBQ is a superior sauce, but that’s just my personal opinion. Regardless of your views on sauces, there’s bound to be one you fancy for your butty/chips/breakfast/etc.
Now, I cannot personally judge the coffee here. Spoiler warning, I also won’t be a good judgement of tea unless it’s a fruit flavoured. I dislike the taste of both beverages. If I could do 4 years at uni and 18 months full time in a school without jumping on the coffee train, there’s no chance of it happening. What I can, however, judge is their milkshake selection. In short, it’s excellent. My favourite is their toffee crunch as I’m a sucker for anything caramel or toffee-flavoured. Apart from Banoffee, but that’s a banana thing. Regardless of your opinion on coffee, tea or bananas, there is bound to be a beverage that tickles your fancy. Including those previously mentioned cocktails, which are on offer on Fridays and Saturdays from 2-5pm. In addition, keep an eye on the socials because the cafe has started to have a weekly drink special, with this week’s beverage being a Twix milkshake—we stan variety for both drinkers and sober people here at My Melton.

Also, something to note is that the cafe also does Sunday lunch. I personally did not have this, but the other half who is basically a roast expert at this point scrapped his plate clean. If you can get the man who refuses to eat pizza due to his dislike of cheese to scoff down some cauliflower cheese, you must be something right. The great thing about their dinners is that there are also other options available on their Sunday menu. So, if you’re a bit meh to roasts due to taste/heat/etc. you’ve got some good options.
Of course, we do have to briefly discuss the hermits of the ego kind. They’re not at Kitchen and Coffee. The cafe is looking to have a can appeal onsite to help raise money for the Air Ambulance. Whilst, other businesses including coffee shops, have praised the venue and told the people to get behind it. Whilst, they are a little bit low on the events guide compared to the previously featured Regal and Black Dragon, one also has to bare in mind, they’ve not long just opened. In the case, the Melton venue starts to mirror the Grantham events calendar, you’ll need to mark your diaries as it is incredibly varied. I, personally, am waiting with bated breath for this day.
Kitchen and Coffee provides a coffee shop experience that is full of love and friendly staff. There’s always nothing new to try here and their drink options cater to everyone. So give them some love and say hi.
I do have one last favour to ask you all. I am currently doing two surveys. The first focuses on Melton’s daytime economy and the second focuses on Melton’s after dark economy. I am looking to analyse and present this data by mid/late July. So I would be super grateful if you could complete the surveys if you haven’t already done so. I am looking to share this data with businesses, the council and BID so the bigger sample I have, the better. Both surveys are below. All questions are anonymous and optional.
In the meantime, I’m off to melt again.

*I go into this in a little more detail in this week’s episode of the MM Podcast but my opinion is summed up as “If a cafe offers something different, doesn’t have ego hermits as owners/managers and is filling an empty building, we should get behind them”.
