It’s Monday again and it’s bloody roasting. Hot temperatures won’t stop me spreading the word of Melton though. Oh no. If anything, it’s giving me something to focus on outside of melting. Observations of the weather aside, it’s time to highlight another business. Last week, you guys voted to decide this week’s category and entertainment option won by a landslide. So it only made sense that I covered one of Melton’s best entertainment options. Regal Cinema.
Located on King’s Street, this independent art-deco cinema offers a local venue to catch the latest films, recorded live performances and classic options. There’s a variety of seating available from standard up to sofas for two, meaning there’s there something for every budget.
The cinema itself is often priced lower than it’s larger city chains despite showing the exact same films. Combine that with cheaper snacks (none of this selling a limb to buy popcorn lark here) and you’ve got a cinema that caters to the budget conscious.
What truly makes the Regal stand out however is it’s ability to work with other independents with a focus on making it each other thrive. The most recent example of this being their collaboration with A Little Less Waster on the 14th June to highlight sustainable fashion. Both in terms of a pop-up clothes shop and a documentary featuring Amy Powney. Other previous event collaborations also include a Pizza Night with Prima Pizza, who I may do an entry about in the future, if only to scream about their Colombian Potatoes.
Other collaborations are also featured in the cinema’s membership program. This is £35 per year for one person, £55 per year for two people and £65 for a four person membership. Each price includes the following:
- A membership card (one per person)
- Free cinema tickets (2 for the one person membership and 4 for the two person and family memberships) .
- £1.50 off entry for any other films for each card shown.
- Discounts at selected venues. These have previously included Cutting Room, Bellini and Foxy Lots.
It is also working on being even more inclusive. From specialist showings for tiny first time guest to relaxed showings for people with Dementia or who may find a traditional cinema experience overwhelming. It is so refreshing to see places in Melton, not only advertise they are welcoming but also outline what measures have been put in place. Can we have more of this please?
Doing the whole My Melton thing for 4 and half years, I have encountered my fair share of ego hermits. You know the ones, the people that don’t want to work with other people because they think they’re above everyone else. The staff at The Regal are NOT ego hermits. They are people who not only care about films and their business but also making the community better. It’s refreshing and there needs to be more of this.
If I was to sum up this blog post, I would say that you need to give Regal your money and support. It’s an independent cinema that not only holds its own against the other chains but I would argue actually does some things better. Pricing and community engagement are the two biggest factors that The Regal has over its city chains. It’s constantly striving to not only be a better cinema but a greater community asset and for that, I have to stan!
I will be dropping another poll on the My Melton socials after this goes live. This time, you guys will be able to pick from pub/bar, takeaway, restaurant/cafe or shop. ‘Cause we like the old variety here on Meltonian Mondays. I’m also going to be dropping a blog post about what’s been going on behind the scenes so check that out once it goes live.
Don’t forget to follow me on the old socials. I am going to be posting a lot of stuff so you’ll wanna see it if you are interested in Melton Mowbray.
Until next time folks, I’m off to melt.
