It's time for the next episode of dragonless Game Of Thrones. On Tuesday, 21st of April, there will be an extraordinary council meeting (this is a full council meeting that wasn't already scheduled and thus doesn't follow the normal full council format). The goal of the meeting is simple, elect a new council leader. Our current council is what is know as a No Overall Control council or NOC for short. This means that the party with the most councillors (the Tories) failed to get the minimum number of councillors for an overall majority. In Melton, that magic number is 15.

From May 2023 till now, MBC has been ran by a collation between the Melton Independents and Labour because Cllr Allnatt won the last leadership vote. He has now resigned as the leader of the council city HOWEVER he is still an active councillor and thus he (alongside the other 27 councillors) is entitled to vote for the new leader. There is a possibility that the votes COULD go to deadlock. What happens if that takes place? I don't have the foggiest, I've never seen or heard of it happening.

So grab your snacks and tune in Tuesday night. Let me know if you want me to do a reaction video in the comments.

It’s all change at MBC.

Apparently, my sweeties can predict the future. Congratulations Cllr Browne,. Now we wait to see who will make up the new cabinet and what changes (fingers crossed, they’re positive ones) they will bring.

This week’s business of the week is White Cherry Boutique. A clothes shop that is located in Bowley Court. It’s a cracking little shop and highly recommend checking it out if you haven’t already done so. #meltonmowbray #leicestershire #independentbusinesses #clothesshopping

A very special meeting at Melton Borough Council tomorrow evening. At 6:30pm, 28 councillors will be voting for who they think should lead the council. So what could tomorrow’s meeting look like? Find out as I explain with sweeties. Lots and lots of sweeties. Did I get the right sweeties for each group? A wise man once said that if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, there is 99.99% chance it’s a duck. Melton Mowbray has a fantastic selection of independent shops selling clothing, gift ideas and tons more. Why not check out Melton Mowbray’s town centre to learn more. Let me know your favourite shop in Melton Mowbray in the comments section. Love and virtual hugs, Kelly PS, if you don’t already follow me, do that. I post about different businesses and events in Melton Mowbray and the surrounding villages. It’s almost May. Now May is a very busy month in and around Melton Mowbray but luckily for you, I have just published a blog post featuring everything* you can expect. From festivals to fish tasting, there is bound to be something you’ll enjoy so get booking and planning. Check out the link in the comments section. Love and virtual hugs, Kelly *Everything in this case is what I could find online on and before the 18th of April. Should an event not be listed it will be down to one of two factors: 1. I couldn’t find information about it so it will be added here, on the upcoming carousel, my weekly what’s on guide or all of the above. 2. I have doubts about whether the event is actually taking place and recieved zero assurance about said doubts before or on the 18th of April. Should I be assured, I will update accordingly. This particular problem is actually a new experience for me and up until now, never happened at any point since I started My Melton back in February 2019.

I just want to say a massive shout out and thank you to Enterprise Melton Mowbray, who came mum and dad’s rescue earlier on today. A lady’s mobility scooter had broken, and thanks to the team, the day has been saved.

If you’re not a fan of trading card games (TCGs) and/or board games, you’re probably wondering what makes Black Dragon Games – Melton so special? Well not only are the team incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to both mainstream and lesser know TCGs and board games but they also offer outstanding service. Nothing is too much trouble for the team and it’s a safe place to go regardless of time of day. Also they offer free learn to play sessions so you can try something new without paying 100s of pounds, which trust me as a Pokemon TCG player, is VERY easy to do. Got a suggestion for a future business of the week? Let me know in the comments section and I’ll add it to my upcoming list. Also if you don’t already follow me, do that because then you get to learn about the different businesses and events in the area. #meltonmowbray #tradingcard #boardgames #tradingcardgame

I’ve covered ALOT of businesses in the past 7 years. Alot of them excited me. The odd one frustrated me. It’s very rare that I leave a new business inspire and that’s precisely what The Newton Centre does. This brand new education centre is located on Burton Street and offers tutorage in Maths, Science and Computing. So far, so tutor centre right? Well, this is where the inspire parts kicks in, not only are they a specialist SEND centre with SEND aware staff but they also use SMART technology to offer personalised learning built around the pupils needs and interests. So little Timmy’s programme is completely different to Little Susan’s even if they both want help with Maths. If you want to know more about the science behind it, speak to the team about it because it is absolutely fascinating to learn about. Right now, they are taking students from 4-16. So if you or someone you know has a child in that age group that could benefit, call the team at 08000699070, visit their location or check out the Newton Centre website.

After a short break, Business Of The Week is back. This week, I’m shouting a place that one of my followers suggested. You may have already heard of The Pie Shop. If you haven’t, just know that this cafe on Church Street (the former Cafe Italia building) serves Pie and mash. Might I add that these pies are award winning and consistently pick up awards at the British Pie Awards. These guys also have a variety of events throughout the year including food and drink pairing sessions, piano performances with Thomas Corden and the opportunity to make your very own Melton Mowbray Pork Pie. So make to check these guys out if you haven’t already and let me know in the comments who should be shouted out in a future Business Of The Week episode.

If you are due to head to Sainsburys for your weekly shop, make sure to check out the artwork by the students at St Mary’s School. You’ll find the exhibition next to the food donation point bins.

Alongside everything I covered in yesterday’s guide, Embers Duo will be performing live at The Harboro Hotel this evening from 7:30pm.

What’s happening in and around Melton Mowbray from 3rd-8th April? Quite a bit, actually 👀 From local events and family days out to things worth leaving the house for, this carousel rounds up some of the best bits happening across Melton Mowbray and the surrounding villages this week. Have a scroll through the full carousel so you don’t miss anything, then share this so nobody can say “I didn’t know that was on” 🙃 #MeltonMowbray #WhatsOnMeltonMowbray #LeicestershireEvents #ThingsToDoInLeicestershire #WhatsOnThisWeekend

OK people place your bets. Who’s going to be our next council leader and do we think there will many changes due to this new leadership?

People of Melton, I come with news. Due to increased exposure to warmer weather, giant cuddly mice and singing birdies, I have decided to do a rebrand. I will no longer be posting as My Melton but rather My Mickey. I hope you continue to support me in my journey as I swap Pork Pies for pineapple Dole Whip and Stilton Cheese for Small World. Love and virtual hugs, Kelly Not really, I just thought I’d do a post because you are 5 hours ahead and thus it’s April Fools Day where you are. Have I missed much? Does anyone have any gossip to share with the group? What’s the new Sports Direct like?

Wanna attend this on Friday? If so, use the code MyMelton when you buy your ticket. You may get a cheeky saving in the process.

Have you missed Charlie’s Bar? Same bestie same. Which is why I was very excited to learn this piece of information whilst chilling in my hotel.

Friendly reminder that the cafe at the train station will be reopening tomorrow under new ownership. Make sure to check it out from tomorrow onwards.

Melton Mowbray Starbucks (inside Sainsbury’s) are hosting a charity fundraiser for Loros until 2pm today. Make sure to pop by if you’re nearby today.

There is alot of fantastic live music lined up over the weekend at The Black Swan.

One for you Ska lovers if you’re out tomorrow.

You may have heard of bingo. You may have heard of spring. Have you heard of Spingo? Grammarly, apparently, hasn’t, and if you’re in the same boat, don’t worry. I’ll explain everything. It’s bingo in spring, and the money raised from the evening will be going to support pupils at Ab Kettleby School. So have a giggle, and who knows, you could even win a fabulous prize.

A jam packed weekend is in store at The Genny B.

Something to check out if you’re out and about tomorrow night.

“Kelly,” I hear you cry, “How is Trumpland and what is this Super Saturday lark?”. Well the only Donald Disney tends to focus on is the duck variety apart from one nap spot called The Hall Of Presidents. Anywho back to what you can expect in the UK. The easiest way to explain Super Saturday is if you took the monthly craft market that Melton BID previously ran and combined it with the Saturday Market that Melton Mowbray Town Estates run then add themed entertainment. Whilst I was originally sceptical of this decision, the way that both James (Melton BID) and Dean (Melton Town Estates) pitched it to me has got me onboard with their vision. Especially the concept of the themed entertainment each month which means that even if Town Estates and Melton BID book the same 30 stalls each month, there’s a reason to check out that month’s market. Although my feed shows that Melton Mowbray Town Estates’ newest job position means that we will be getting a bigger variety of stalls in the future. So watch this space about what their new employee plans to do. I plan to do live tours of these Super Saturdays throughout the year* so if you want an idea about what the expect, follow me if you haven’t already done so. In the meantime, feel free to tell me about the weather or spill any important tea in the comments section and I will see you all when I get back. 😀 *This will probably start in May because I don’t know what my jet lag is going to be like when I return from the US.

Good evening from the USA. I’m off on a family holiday until Good Friday so expect posting to be on a lighter schedule unless something major comes up. Try not to set the town on fire whilst I’m gone. Love and virtual hugs, Kelly

Melton Mowbray, it’s that time of the week again. It’s Friday guide day. In a week where I have been squawking about Melton’s live music scene (spoiler warning there will be more squawking throughout the year), it’s only right that I highlight the live music, drag shows and more in this week’s guide. Comic Con returns and there is even a whisky tasting session. So support what you can and spread the word, otherwise there’s not much point to me doing these guys. Love and virtual hugs, Kelly

Have you heard of a micropub? I hadn’t before paying @thehopstopmeltonmowbray a visit when they opened last Friday. This cracking new venue on Burton Street has a fantastic selection of craft beers available and a stunning mango cider. Take from a girlie who is a sucker for anything Mango or salted caramel flavoured. With the weather finally deciding to brighten up, now is a great chance to see what it’s all about. It definitely one to check out if you haven’t already done so. 📍 Burton Street Melton Mowbray (Leicestershire) #craftbeer #micropub #meltonmowbray ##newbusiness

Did you know that Melton Mowbray is the rural capital of live music? From weekly pub gigs to world class festivals, Melton Mowbray is more than meets the pie. So come and see what we have to offer this English Tourism Week. #meltonmowbray #englishtourismweek #livemusic #leicestershire

This amazing business in Melton Mowbray is based in a humble car park and doesn’t really get shouted about. Shop Mobility is open Tuesdays and Saturdays all year and open up on Fridays during the spring/summer period. It’s definitely one to be aware of if you have friends and family coming to the area who have mobility issues. To ensure more post like these end up on your feed follow me. Got a business that is worthy of being business of the week? Let me know in the comments section. Next week’s business of the week is actually a follower request. #meltonmowbray #mobility #localbusiness

Are you aware that Melton Borough Council have a public question time segment at each of their full council meetings? If you don’t, this reel is for you and if you do, you can watched me explain it at 1.5 speed whilst puffing and panting out my arse. The public question segment is a great way for residents in Melton Mowbray and the surrounding villages to hold their elected councillors to account so definitely take advantage of it. #democracy #meltonmowbray #localissues #acountability

It’s time for my monthly column and this time I’m arguing that our parking should be cheaper. I put the links to all the sources I refer to in the comments section of the Melton Times’ post. Oh and before someone puts 2+2 together and makes 5. I sent Nick this column on the 27th of February. Everything else parking related is solely coincidental timing that I don’t even think William Shakespeare is capable of writing.

It’s neurodiversity celebration week. You may be aware that I have a neurodivergence diagnosis (if you aren’t, now you are) so I thought I’d drop a few fun facts. You know what they say, every day’s a school day. If you learnt something new, give this post a share and teach your friends list something new on this fine Monday afternoon.

One of the things I love the most about doing My Melton is challenging the outdated misconception that Melton Mowbray is just Pork Pies and nothing else. The reality is that we have so much to shout about here and it’s about time it got acknowledged. If you are one of the idiots that think Melton Mowbray is just pork pies, firstly you’re wrong. Secondly, I was just like you 7 years ago until I started researching and visiting places for content inspiration. One thing I’ve learnt in this time is that we are shocking when it comes to communicating the message that there is more than meets the River Eye. So if you want to know more, follow me. Tell your friends about me. Join the fight to defeat the idiots that walk amongst us. #meltonmowbray #MythBusting

Did you know this week is English Tourism Week? I didn’t but it does give me an opportunity to remind you that Melton Mowbray has some fun and exciting things lines up in the pipeline. From the UK’s original tribute festival to a multi-award winning Scream Park. We have the best of the best and newest of the new right here! Let me know if there’s an event on here that you didn’t know about in the comments and drop me a cheeky follow to learn more of these events, our fantastic local businesses and the various issues that are affecting us Meltonian folk. Think of me as your fabulous Internet bestie. #meltonmowbray #englishtourismweek #discoverleicestershire #thingstodoinmeltonmowbray

You may remember a while ago that I did a post about your rights when the parking machines are broken. I also mentioned in said post that MBC have put a tender document out asking for new car parking machines (yay) that don’t take cash (boo). When MBC put their own statement out, people were annoyed at the fact cash wasn’t even being considered. So MBC have now launched a consultation asking us common folk which parking machine option we would prefer. The three options each have different pros and cons so I would highly recommend reading them before you cast your vote. Something to note is that this consultation is about how MBC will accept the parking fee and is NOT about the cost of said fees. Whether they will address it after my Melton Times column, we shall see. Spoiler warning, I have written a 350 word essay on why I believe the fees are overpriced. Something that shouldn’t come as a surprise to you if you’ve been following me for a while. What I’m trying to say is complete the survey then tell everyone you know to complete the survey. You don’t even have to vote the same option as I have just as long as you do it.

It’s the first entry on the business of the week wall of fame. Today I’m giving a little bit of love to G&G Travel who have some fantastic day trips and holidays in the pipeline. Make sure to swing by the Bell Centre to learn more and book your trip. Let’s be honest, it’s more relaxing when you let someone else do the driving. Glastonbudget is an amazing festival that is less than a 20 minute drive away from Melton Mowbray. If you’re someone who’s followed me for a while, you’ll know that I’ve attended the last 3 and had an absolute hoot. The line up for this year’s festival looks incredible and combines some of the best from Glastonbudgets past woth some new acts. Tickets are available now and if you want to read more of my thoughts comment Glastonbudget, there’s a link to my review of 2025’s festival in the comments section. #Glastonbudget #festival ##ukfestival
